I can’t express how excited I am to see Lukenya University pioneering a commitment pooling system that not only enables zero-interest student loans but also lays the foundation for an economic system rooted in ancestral wisdom and Islamic endowments (Waqf).
I've known Dr. AbdulHakim Maina (who has implemented this) for nearly a decade, and in all those years, I’ve never seen him waver from his ethics. His relentless dedication to building economic systems that prioritize community resilience over profit-driven extraction has led to this historic moment—where a university is not just teaching economics, but actively living and shaping the future of ethical finance.
Lukenya University’s School of Business and Economics (LUSOBE) may now be home to one of the most progressive and advanced economic models in the world. Students aren’t just taking out zero-interest loans—they’re participating in a system where credit exchanges flow throughout campus, where endowments are pooled for collective good, and where the very way we understand economics is being transformed.
This is more than a pilot project. This is a glimpse into the future—a future where finance is based on trust, reciprocity, and shared abundance rather than debt and exploitation. I couldn’t be prouder to witness this moment.
