Your vision of "power with" instead of "power over" is really nice. Thank you for sharing.

Btw I also have a personal question I wanted to ask, I left it in your inbox when you have time please check it out.

I wonder if Celo could be changed for a self standing app. Who knows what the future might bring and an exchanging app between individuals might bring community pools close to users.

Perhaps it might not be usable in some countries, but a Bluetooth connected app that generates a commitment, aka token, and it's opposite (negative value) could help exchange between two in person people. The app could generate it's own file for backup and each user could save it where he/she wants. Thus no central server is needed. The app would then keep track of 'tokens' the individual has in their phone. These are generated when someone gives a service or good to another person and the receiver of the good or service gets a -token indicating that he/she must give back to the community.

There are other issues when there isn't a centralized exchange, like balances, unknown control of the system, plus it needs to be combined with community information resources to know what services and goods are available.

Any thoughts are appreciated. This is my first post in this app. I enjoy community exchanges, will certainly explore the Sarafu Network I certainly love the works and need to learn more.

Thank you, Will. Also, the link to the Sarafu Network. Symbiosis! Your positioning and framing is especially helpful, offering narratives which open alternatives and new ground - "This is not redistribution. This is reweaving". I appreciated your framing of symbiotic power. To me it is a healthier framing of power dynamics - as 'power with' and 'power though' to me still implies that someone is in a less contributing position. Big appreciation :)

I love this. I keep thinking of “minimum viable persons” like how in my city I want to weave relationships to eat, educate, have safety and shelter, thrive. with whatever overlapping and interweaving relationships as possible.

to lead by example a sane, regenerative existence.

and that that sanity is so in demand, that it will attract others to it.

to that end I’d love to pursue the conversation I had with Aude a couple months ago. To throw my video making / writing etc schools into a pool, and see if there’s a project to bring your work to more people

I’ve been watching your videos which are great and am wondering if showcasing one or several pools in action might help bring it alive? or perhaps the process of seeing if forming a pool with a video maker in Montreal, and a foundation in Kenya and who knows who else, might demonstrate the potential of these protocols?

I'm finding this concept of pooling resource commitments and borrowing from them while commiting your own resources fits very naturally into VSLA groups (village savings and loan association or rotating savings and credit associations). Seems like a ton of energy focused there as a low hanging fruit.... Developing networks of VSLAs that utilize more than just money as their resource pool.

Having credit to be able to borrow resources ... Like your story telling work.

Is that something you could see offering and exchanging among a community? Your own pool in that case might make a lot of sense.

yes very much. I've been spending a fair bit of time keyboard warrioring in various eco-restoration type groups and have been very struck by how there are so many awesome people doing awesome work and wondering how to leverage my skill set to help them get their stories more widely known.

At the same time, I know so many film/video freelancers twiddling their thumbs right now, and it made me wonder if commitment pooling was a way to tap these underperforming assets

What it got me thinking was, does it make sense for someone in my industry/position to get involved with pools that would link what I can do with what I need? Food...shelter...etc.

So I wonder if commitment pools along a way to explore network connections that might otherwise be hidden?

Like is there some pool that might link $2000 equivalent of videomaking with a week's accommodation on someone's property? (like: is there a more efficient path than cash to find a cottage equivalent to take my kids this summer?)

I suppose one of my questions is: when are commitment pools more efficient than cash? (and when aren't they)...
